Track my thoughts as I turn my back on 35 years of suburbia and head north to the rural Green Mountains of Vermont.

Brandon, Vermont

I avoided posting in this "blog" for a good long time - and life has changed considerably since my last post - and my back still hurts. Maybe this is from the 3 mile Kayak ride across Eastman Lake instead of hauling anonymous cardboard boxes. Regardless of the pain and complaints, a major chapter in the Tinkoff family has been closed - we are officially out of Connecticut. The family and I are circling in a "holding pattern" somewhere over New Hampshire while we wait to close on our Farmhouse in Brandon, Vermont. This is the toughest part. It's a slow as molassas wait - and everyone is getting cranky, including my parents who have to put up with our ideosyncracies for another week or two.

I must say though...it is absolutley amazing to be under such a deep blue sky under the shadow of very old pine & maple trees. We are north - that is truth.

Bleary eyed and back hurting. Quinn and I tackeled the garage this afternoon as well as picking up an oversized dresser from my sister in Westport that we are going to use in the girl's room. We are getting down to the nitty-gritty as the final boxes are getting stuffed to the brim. We are living in the space between the cardboard towers - we call our stuff. I am happy that I received my brand-spankin-new DeWalt cordless drill to help me take apart my media table (and other things). I can't tell you how much I am going to enjoy that one! This is all such an amazing processes and hopefully the last time we experience it. Moving trucks arrive in 6 days! Counting the hours...

This is really less about moving to Vermont and more about, well, uh... just about anything I care to entertain. The most important discovery for today? Simple and amazing. OVO. Peter Gabriels latest record from the Millenium shows in London.

OOO I cannot WAIT to get my paws on this CD.

STILL IN STAMFORD, CONNECTICUT
10 Days and counting...

It's really starting to cook in the house as we push 90 degrees (a rare event this summer) in the late afternoon. I am enjoying a rare moment of silence now that Jake has passed out on the chair after a day of running half naked thru the sprinkler. Kaita is still in school and Cassidy is at one of her many friend's birthday parties. So I'm taking this moment to indulge in listening to the new Phish CD: FARMHOUSE- which is surprisingly good (not really all that surprising considering the time they spend playing each year). This effort is the best one yet, and GHOST- the last CD was an absoulte knock out. I really, really like this one quiet accoustic song on FARMHOUSE called "The Inlaw Josie Wales". It is an introspective romp on accoustic guitar and piano - really gorgeous, very mature for such a freeform, jam band. God I'm a sucker for American Jam-Eyed Pop Music...

Later in the afternoon and Jacob is watching Batman now. Kaita is up in her room dancing to a retro-kidz group doing covers of old Abba songs. I am sitting here on the couch (my new favorite surfing spot) trying to figure out how to customize the Blogger templates. This is not intuitive stuff. It smells like a Chinese Food night. Yup, Shanghai Chicken and Fried Rice all around...

I'm sitting on my couch experiencing the joys of the wireless internet through my ultra slick Apple Powerbook. Jacob is at my feet, watching Nick Jr. Yesterday was his last day of pre-school. We have only 12 more days to pack our things and get out of this house in Stamford. Mountains of cardboard boxes are in every corner. Most of the walls are bare and lego is everywhere. (Don't worry Jacob, we wont pack the lego - just yet). Jacob is bringing me a box of Fruit Loops which he wants as a second course to his Frosted Flakes breakfast. Now he wants a peanut butter sandwich "because its chewy" in his words. Must be a growing spurt coming on, I've never seen him this hungry before this early in the morning.
