Off to Vacation
|
 |
|
Time is nigh for re-visiting the mid-west and then on to a wee's vacation and Burning Man 2000. At burrning man we will be exposing our dome if it gets completed in the nick of time.
I have shirked on many of my duties. Practicing mandolin, learning music theory. I do have a kick ass mobile development environment (hint: laptop) so I have that going for me.Ya know... Which is nice.
We had an excellent party at Chez Villa Two weeks ago in conjunction with The Small Brewer's Festival which occurs across the street! I am still recovering. We had art projects to beautify our burning man site. Touchsense LAN gaming. Beer from our friends at the Tide House (it was Amber.) and lots of good friends old and new. I have to bug Evan about getting some pictures up online.
The weekend was laughed away by a mess of funny people at San Francisco's Comedy Day. Props go out to NikkiRiffic for bringing it to our attention. Gorged out on food and fun.

Jugband Mandolin Prohect |
 |
|
Have you met Jugband, Kevin, and Muhammad?
Playing mandolin is a nice stress reliever and yet a stress creator. I need to learn the basics before I can accomplish amazing things like my friends in the Yonder Montain I did find a great site on learning music theory to brush up on all the stuff the Suziki method neglected to engrain in when it should of.
Geek appendix:
Linux is now re-installed and Tomcat is behaving better now
The new Laptop (Antelope) sound finally works it suffered from a high pitch whine during audio playback. Thanks to the ESS 2E mailing list for helping me know to turn off power mgmt. in the sound drivers.
Thanks to this guy my Dell Inspiron 5000 happily exists with linux on it

Ok after more reading the freenet tech looks cool have to check out the source to see how well it is implimented. Speaking of source Iam learning Java and it is a bit painful. Classpath and environment variables Oh My. Also the Tomcat servlet server took a death spiral on my laptop. Which I am happy to say is now 100% linuxified. Well if you don't count that windows partition.

Freenet another interest in that lineage

Fresh air and fun then some more reading and I have big problems so far with Freenet
but and only a bit into their paper. I will give then the benefit of the doubt so far as they do have the attention of quite a few people.

Gnutella is a file decentralized sharing
mechanism
I am suddenly very interested in this technology and not just because of Napster's
popularity. It is possible to improve greatly on the foundation set by first
Napster and then Gnutella and on to the next generation of advanced file replication
including modules to provide services like Authentication , Encryption, and
shareable standardized directory indexes, insert your good idea here.
Imagine putting a massively parallel tree of content into the Internet via
client data repositories that resides closest to where it is being utilized.
Efficient sharing of data islands (mp3,web pages, video,XML) could be floated
across the net and shared by everyone or only for those authorized to view and
or manipulate it.
The internet browser brought a web of interlinked static content and a standard
UI platform to the masses. file replication will allow static content to float
across the web.

Excellent Cover of Snoop Doggy my our friends Phish
and String Cheese Incident
( who is a much better band than their web site makes them appear )
Gin and Juice - Fun and toe tapping but don't play in a conservative environment with out head phones.
Update: I have since realized that this song was mis-labeled by those silly Napster users. It is actually covered by The Gourds. I have since seen the same song on Napster as being by Ween, Blues Travlers, Phish, String Cheese, and much much more.
