See the entire discussion: FOREIGNERS: SHOULD WE LET THEM IN OR OUT?.
Dear board,
For decades and decades foreigners from Iraq to Japan have been allowed to freely travel back and forth in America with no trouble or hindering from the US governtment. How can we solve this problem?? Should we just put electric fences on all our boarders, if you touch you die, should we continue to open our doors to whomever wants to come to America? What should we do. I want you opinion.
See ya,
Josh

What have Japanese and Iraqi foreigners done to the US?
Nothing...the people I have the most problems with are the non-English speaking Mexicans who come in here and take our jobs and drive our cars and live off of our money. You know, the illegal ones...However I don't believe we should let EVERYONE in..even though it does happen. All the time. The American-born citizens, though, are the ones I have no problem with because they are educated and appreciate things here in the US. The Japanese and Iraqi foriegners have done absolutely nothing to us...could you maybe elaborate on that futurepres?

Whoa rainydaygirl, I'm a little taken aback by your comments. Emm, I dunno if you should be angry with Mexican people or with those who hire them over American citizens. People/businesses/corporations want to make as much profit as they can and the cheaper or more efficient the labor the more the profit someone is making. And foreigners don't really have to leave their countries to err "take our jobs" think of all the American companies who manufacture overseas. I wonder why that is? Everyone is just trying to survive. You probably have more in common with these non-English speaking Mexicans than you realize, and just because they don't speak English does not mean they are not educated.
I personally think the whole concept of boarders and territories and "citizenship" is ridiculous. Tomorrow someone could say that Mexico and the US are one big country and you wouldn't really have an argument. Don't forget that we drew the lines on maps. And supposedly at one point there was only one huge land mass on the globe and it broke up over time.

I have no problems with letting people in here either... Gray put it best, "Don't forget that we drew the lines on maps."
We set up countries and boundaries, why should we continue to use that 17th century idea to keep people out? As long as those people are willing to work and to contribute to society then it's all good. I think it's safe to say that 98%+ of immigrants here come here with good intent. Not the intent to blow this country up.
I figure as long as we have a good immigration dept. (lol, INS screwed that one up) then we're all good.
...punch and pie
Gray,
I am well aware that just because they don't speak English doesn't mean that they aren't educated. I just feel that if they wanna live in our country they need to speak our language. I never took Spanish and I'm waiting for the day it becomes a secondary language and our kids will be required to learn it.
MAYBE when racial and ethnic equality is *finally* a reality, then I won't have anything to bitch about.
Dear Gray,
I just used a nationality for example because both are potential enemies.
See ya,
Josh
I agree that if people come to the US they need to learn the language. If we go to another country I believe that we should know their language. I believe that people should work hard to learn, and not have things handed to them.
I think we should still welcome foreigners, because NOT ALL THE FOREIGNERS ARE BAD. And US is a very new nation, there are certain things that only US can do. And I think one of them is to accept new people from all different backgrounds.
meggem15, no offense, but American people are very famous for not speaking a language other than their own. I guess it's hard to learn a language when everybody in the world speaks English, but learning another language often enlarges one's view. ENglish spreading all over the world can be a good thing- so we can all communicate, but can be a bad thing- now there is no "accurate" English!
I take no offense tomcow600. I believe that we need to learn other peoples' languages and not just talk English. I believe in the US we should talk English and expect others to too. However, when we go abroad we should talk their language. I agree with your view 100%.
i think they should let foreigners in cuz like meggem15 said they arent all bad. i have lots of friends that came from like every where and they all know english so...whatever. i also agree meggem15 that if we go somewhere we should learn their language and foreigners should learn english.
