Anti-war protesters
This feature is taken from E.A.9.11, Group 5. See the entire discussion: Anti-war protesters.

Post 9.11 anti-war groups have come out with statements against the 'war on terror'. For example some of the World Economic Forum protesters were also anti-war protesters. How can they be against the war in Afghanistan? Whether or not the WTC had been attacked, the people of Afghanistan desperately needed to be liberated from Taliban rule. What do other people feel/think about the anti-war protesters?

I think people are scared. After 9/11, there was virtually no questioning of governmental actions, and I think some people grew worried that without the normal balance of the press and their consitutents, the government would act without restraint. In my opinion, anti-war protestors add an important point of view, even if it is more extreme than the views of most.

I think that the most important thing to remember is that we DO have the "freedom" to say what we think. What would this country be if everyone agreed on what cereal to eat in the morning, what clothes to buy, and most importantly, what to think. America thrives on allowing people with differing views to speak up, and if theoretically, if they were to pull a majority, to change the actions the government takes. I am much more concerned with people who blindly support the actions that the American government takes, and assumes that the actions are right because that is what is being done. The people who support something for no reason, those are the ones who can be convinced that the government is always going to do the right thing, and if the government does something extreme, will follow once again with little or no thought.

I think these people aren't considering the consequences of not going to war...I know it sounds awful, but what is america supposed to do? we can't just sit back, and let our homeland be attacked. We aren't really punishing the people of Afghanistan, we are just trying to install a government that won't opress the people, and trying to stop terrorism. We could be doing worse things, like using atomic bombs, but America continues to be patient, and weed out the criminals, instead taking everyone down.

I don't happen to agree with some of the things that are going on. I agree that bin Laden should be sought out and punished, but I don't believe that innocent Afghans should be killed because of Bush's rage. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Bush and his administration, but I must say, I do not agree with all of their methods. I want terrorism to stop, but is violence really the way to end violence?

I have complete hate (rage in fact) for President Bush, and hate the man in every way, but I also disagree with his administration's methods and can't condone their killing of innocent civilians. Do you Bush-supporters want Afghans who never crossed paths with the Taliban to die? All these freaking people DO is murder civilians most of the time, look at all the hits that missed when they still haven't "gotten" Osama. Even the Afghans who hate the Taliban's guts risk being killed because they're on Afghanistan soil! If this is what the war continues to bring about, I say what's wrong with the protesters. Instead of taking out your rage on people who hate the war, why not take it out on people who hate everything Middle Eastern or people who give Arab-Americans looks?
