9.11 In School Yearbook?

One of the teachers in my school has decided that a September 11th page should be put inside of our school yearbook. A few of the people in our school agree, but there is a huge number of people who are strongly opposed to it. Myself, I wouldn't want a September 11th page in our yearbook. It just seems like something like that doesn't belong in there. The teachers argue that our yearbook wouldn't be "complete" without it. Others argue that it (as well as any other controversial politics like that) don't belong in our yearbook, which everyone will be receiving. What do you all think? I'm hoping some other people out there might be facing the same sort of situation.

In my opinion I wouldn't want it in my high school year book. Because when i get older i don't want to look back and remember something so horrible. Which you're going to remember that date anyways. So i don't see the purpose of putting it in a year book. I guess other people have there own opinions tho. But if this topic is so controversial. Then teachers shouldn't put it in the year book.

Although yeah it was the most terrifying or the most horrible event of the past year, I do believe that it should be put in the yearbook. but what would be even better is if it was placed in there with not only what happened here in the usa, but also opinions of others around the world about it or just simply the students of the school; that way it will have a more profound and personal effect on the yearbook that is suppose to bring closure as well as memories of all that had happened that year. And I think by denying that event we are backing away cowardly from something that had without a doubt effected all of our lives and many generations to come. And a yearbook is an understandable place to place a page like that in to. Again though, I strongly would disagree with placing that page into it if all it will be about is the great patriotism and heroism of this country. Instead it should present all views, because it has effected everyone living in some either minor or major way.
Bye and thanks for reading,
Tamara

I'm a senior in high school right now and I have been involved with the yearbook committee. I oppose having a 9/11 page in the book because my four years in high school did not revolve around that date. If someone does feel its important there are other relevant dates that they should put in the class of 2002's yearbook. Abner Louwima (sp?) being sodomized, the protests against the WTO, columbine, the messed up election that has had us all quite upset, etc. etc. Although 9/11 was a tragedy our high school years did not begin nor end on that day. I feel that if we fail to recognize all the other events that happened within our past 4 years I see no point in putting that one.

I think we all will remember what happened during September 11th no matter what. We usually get yearbooks to remember our friends and happy events during high school. There were many other bad events that have happened to the U.S. that never were put in our school yearbook. Even though this was a big impacted on the U.S. we shouldn't put it in the yearbooks.

At the end of my yearbook, there's a section called "World Beat." It has news in there about the year in such areas as sports, world news, lifestyle, science and technology, music, national news, and famous faces. I wouldn't be surprised if 9/11 was in there...9/11 has impacted our lives both positively and negatively, and a yearbook is a chronicle of everything that has been a part of our lives during the year. I know this may sound weird, but having that section at the back of the book allows us to see what was going on in the world when u were goin' out with someone, when you were actually passing chemistry, and when you were graduating. Would it really hurt if you had a memorial page of 9/11 in your yearbook?

I haven't thought about the fact of "should 9-11 be put into a yearbook?" Yes, I think it should. I agree that a yearbook is something to look back upon and make you be happy about your teenage life. But, I think that this is an event that has shaped our lives. You cannot deny that you life was not affected. So, in my opinion, even though this was a bad situation, there will always be something good to come out of it. So, if I had my yearbook, and I saw this page, it would make me think how my life was different because of this.
