Several new attacks on the already moribund American promise of freedom were suggested after the attacks on September 11. Some, like national ID cards, have stagnated and haven't had enough people getting serious about them to pass the ideas through; others, like trying suspected terrorists through biased secret juries and government officials reading people's email have already gotten through. Yet other assaults on liberty came from school officials or people in charge of TV programs and newspapers rather than through perceived government policy. People our parents' age don't seem to be fighting back against the overtly freedom-hating attitudes that people have flaunted. What can young people do to remind the world of the importance of liberty? Because OLDER people certainly aren't remembering it.

I think that adults grew up in a much different time and place then we have. They experienced different problems that we have never dealt with and don't understand, but we have seen new troubles with our generation that they don't know anything about. We must sit down with our parents and explain how we feel, and then maybe they can generate a response.
