I don't think that the tragedy should be made into a national holiday. I think it is important that we always remember what happened, but we can do that without a day off from work and school. I would be afraid that if it was made into a national holiday stores would start taking advantage of it (having sales), and people would soon forget the meaning behind the day. I think a national moment of silence, lowering of the flags, and such may be appropriate, but not a national holiday.
I think people should remember September 11 for the rest of their lives but in my opinion there should not be a national holiday because it would be an annual reminder for the families who lost loved onez altho they probably think of them everyday but it should be remembered as a day where many innocents lost their lives and therefore like Lindsay said we dont' need a holiday and days off for it.
I totally agree with Lindsay and babygrl...when pearl harbor was attacked in 1941, we did not make it into a national holiday. I'm not trying to parallel Dec. 7 with 9/11 like the media has, but my point is that it would be very inappropriate for 9/11 to be a national holiday. yes, many people and heros were lost on that day, God rest their souls; however, a national holiday, as lindsay put it, could be exploited. Not to get off topic, but just as the holidays as Christmas and Easter have been commercially demoralized, the potential for 9/11 to come upon the same fate is inevitable if made into a national holiday. People have all ready used 9/11 as a commercial devise; it's been in the news. I do not think many people would be happy if Macy's or SEARS would have a slogan, "Please come out for our 9/11 sale! The prices have fallen just for this day!" I'm sorry, but that will not do!
I agree.... 9/11 should not be a national holiday... yes we shoud always remember it but it does not need to be exploited as Magdee and Linsay put it... There are plenty of other tragedies.. though they may not have been as bad that will always be remembered and didnot equie a national holiday. There i no doubt in my mind that we will never forget 9/11 because everyone lost something that day.
Why would you make a day of pain and detruction a day to look foward to?> When the people that lost friends and family look on a caleneder there is a reminder that they lost loved one's on that day of course everyone will remember that day but you dont have to publicize such a awful day in history on that day everyone that particapated in the attacks on the world trade center will also be remembered and that holiday will bring there evilness back to life forever
I agree, 9/11 should not be a national holiday for all the reeasons mentioned above.

I agree about no nation holiday for the same reasons as the rest of you. It brings back the pain, and to have the day off people would eventually start partying and acting stupid on a day that shouldn't be used in that way. A lowering of flags and moment of silence (like Lindsay said) is good, and of course when they get the memorial up they should do something for the firefighters and cops, like a 21 gun salute or something, but not a holiday...holidays are days for celibrating and fun.
I totally think thats it like really important and ppl should remember it forever. But stiil, some people may not think the same about it. Some may really not remember it. So my answer is no.
As a New Yorker I feel that it should be a national day. How ever I agree that while some people would respect it, those that it didn't not affect, like those in the mid-west would just take it off and have it as a party day. But then again that is what happens with any day off, regardless of reason. But if anything I think that it should atleast be a day off for New Yorkers since it did affect us in a major way.
