I assume you guys all read the email that the monitors sent out, and the article on teen slang. If you didnŐt then check out your email. I have never heard any of this slang in my school, and it is a liberal school. Perhaps because it is still a bit too close to home (Manhattan). I know if people started saying stuff like that in the school there would be some showdowns between students. Is this kind of sh*t happening in your school?

no, I haven't noticed any of it in my school. A lot of kids talk about it a lot and stuff, and once, and only ONCE, this kid in my English class called somebody a "terrorist" but he got in quite a bit of trouble for it, so nobody's said anything. At least that I know of.

I've never heard any of these except "Osama Yo Mama". Could this article possibly be a hoax intended to see if it can work some new slang into the American vocabulary.

I've heard the term 'terrorist', in place of the word 'Nazi', when refering to people un-liked. Anyone that would use those words that were in the article need serious help. I agree with Sergei's thought on whether or not that was actually even real.

Has anyone here ever heard of the "Great Grunge Hoax"? This brings to mind some similarities. Using something being hyped to try to see if their slang can catch on with those vulnerable adolescents.

No, I've never heard of the "Great Grunge" Hoax. What did it entail?

As for what the Great Grunge Hoax was, read here:

Seems as if the media will always want to seize on the events of the day to see if they can get some new words into spoken circulation. Not that the terrorism/war thing is our generation's equivalent of grunge. From all I know, we still seem to be known as the generation without a defining moment.

Grunge is grand, but this is not...

This is pathetic.

Make up a slang just so you can have someone write a new story? Real slang was made by the people who use it. And if kids are actually going to be heard saying this, they're going to come up with something a lot better than "swingin' on the flippity-flop".
