I'm sure we've all heard about the terrible racial and religious oppression that many people of the Islamic faith and those who look to be of Middle-Eastern descent have experienced since the attacks. Have any of you witnessed this yourself? Have you been a victim of it? Are you guilty of this racial profiling?

i think i have, i'm not proud of it, but i think there's something there that didnt used 2 b. heres a for instance...my aunt is opening a coffee shop and knows this guy whos of Islamic faith and hes got the whole turban deal goin on and everthing. and hes gonna work for her. but my family and i were just talking about it, like he moves around alot, and i really dont feel comfortable around him. i prolly have nothing to worry about, but yes, i think i have started viewing people of Islamic faith differently after 9-11

I've heard stories about people getting beat up, their businesses trashed, threats, all kinds of harassment. I heard about a guy who lived a few blocks from my school being shot and whoever shot him put an American flag over his body. That was pretty disturbing and I didn't hear anything about it on the news either. But another thing that's interesting is how, I'm not generalizing here OK, but there are some people of middle eastern descent who before the attacks could easily have been accused of profiling and being racist...mmmk? So it's interesting how after the attacks for certain communities the tables were turned. And people of middle eastern descent were the ones to be suspicious of not say, black people hailing cabs, walking through stores, or otherwise going about thier business.

I personally do not do the whole racial and religious profiling. I know many people from Afganistan, India, and many Middle East countries who were born in the U.S. since their parents came her many years ago. I live in Michigan, where in Dearborn we have the largest Islamic population in the world other then in the Middle East, after 9-11-2001 there were many attacks against Islamic people which I believe is wrong! Many Islamic people who are here, came here for a better life not for more religious persecution and ridicul because of their religion or dress or color of their skin. One innocent Islamic man was minding his own business and walking down the street and a group attacked him and beat him until he was unconcious and left him for dead, he was in a coma for weeks at a local hospital and never woke up.......he left behind kids and a wife. How do you think that made them feel? They were afraid to leave their own house after that which is sad!

I can see why peopl would be wary of Islamic/Arabic people, not that i think of it as a good thing at all, but I don't blame them for it, but being hateful, or considering all Arab/Islamic people are evil/terrorists is wrong. Especially when it is the government is doing it. (Taking more security precautions with Arbic People, etc.) I have a penpal who was on AOL listening to people say thing like
"All Arabs need to die. The U.S. should look to
 Hitler's deeds for
inspiration and gas em all" and "I wanna f***** smash in all the Afghan kids' heads
 and feed their burnt and
smashed remains to the lions" Thats just sad that people can be that hateful and prejudice. Thats where we get terrorists in the first place.
