Beginning with the president's speech on the afternoon of 9.11 the word "justice" has been used indiscriminately (though not quite so much as "evildoer"). This would crack me up if it weren't so tragic. The United States is now as stuck on the "bin Laden scandal" as we were on the Lewinsky scandal, the Condit scandal, the election scandal, the Enron scandal, et al. Those 2,898 people are not going to come back to life, not for any amount of blood, tears, or even oil. Retaliation will not cancel out the tragedy that has already occured, it will only deepen the loss. This isn't justice, it is punishment. As a matter of fact it doesn't even follow the silly old "eye for an eye". If somebody pokes your eye out you don't start running around poking out the eyes of everyone else in the room.
I agree. Something that really chaps my bum is the fact that now we are doing this to save the Afganistani and Israeil/Palestinian people, and it's all for them. Then why didn't we do this BEFORE 9/11? It seems to me that the US is being hypocritical. Erm, maybe that's not the right word, but they are saying that it's all for those people. But the taliban have been in control of that nation for a long time, and people were dying, and we didn't do ANYTHING about it until after 9/11. We aren't doing it to save those people, we are doing it to save face.
