We had this conversation in Civics class the other day and it has kind of been in my mind ever since. I don't exactly know what to think, because my school doesn't do that. If had to do a drug test I don't know what I would do. I like to play sports and be in school related groups in stuff but if they didn't trust me enough for not doing drugs it would just be not cool. I know it would actually cut down on the people that do do drugs and participate in these things and would try to stop them from actually doing drugs. I don't do drugs and if they tested me I would be disappointed that they don't trust me.

I think that they have no reason to have drug tests for school. Now, if you were going to play a sport, then I guess it is okay because it is apart of the procedure in getting a physical. But what I figure is that if they do do a drug test, then don't worry too much about it because you don't do drugs in the first place...right? But at the same time, they don't belong at school. That is stupid.

Hey guys.. Well my opion on drug testing in schools is that they shouldn't do it. I mean it's one thing to have a drug search and bring out the drug dogs like they seem to do regularly at my high school but making people be tested for it. Can't they get into big trouble over that? Is that even constitutional? I don't know all I'm saying is that they shouldn't do it. I know that it can help get the junkies out of our schools but if they get high before they come to school then should they be kicked out for it. I have a cousin who went to school high and they tried to kick her out and they couldn't because she had done it before she came to school. So if they had tested her then she would have been kicked out of school for it even though she did it before school. Now I'm not justifying what she did because it was wrong we should never feel that we must resort to taking drugs, but why should be punished for it when she didn't do it at her school? If someone else has a point that could shed a little more light on things for me and the rest of this group than please let us hear it!!

In one of my classes we were talking about random drug testing for athletes and how in this article it had said that they should have no problem doing it because its a voluntary thing to be in a sport. Well its also voluntary to be in a chess club or the newspaper. Heck why don't we do the whole student body? We can't discriminate because of age so why don't we do the teachers, principals, head of districts even! If you're gonna do drug testing... test everyone. All or nothing :::bust out in an o-town ballad::: "cuz I want it all... lol ok don't mind me.

LoLLOLOLOL; good one MacSuxHansonRules. funny, very funny. Although I must disagree with you on your view. Because you have to look what drugs do in each of the situations of occupations you had mentioned. Obviously yes, drugs aren't good in any case ever thought of(except of course marijuana for some cancers, but that's another story), but drugs in all things considered have the worst effect on an athlete's ability to play sports, as well as many other things. I guess it is just much more apparent in an athlete that should be healthy and able to keep their body in good care. So, yeah I agree that no one specific should be pointed out for random drug testing, but then again you see that's another fault of our government that should be giving money for things like that or at least forming better awareness programs for kids in schools about drugs, instead of spending billions on bombing and destructing other countries and causing more turmoil.
Ok, that's it. Bye all and thanks for reading.

I like your last point about spending money on drug awareness instead of bombings, eurosoccer.
Now, I have to ask, is this an american thing? I'm sort of lost, because I haven't heard of any of this here in Canada. Regardless, I agree that it is sort of unfair to only be testing students as opposed to the general public. Other people do drugs too! Myself, I've stayed away from all of that stuff (medical reasons as well as moral) but I do have some friends who do drug in my school (they don't do drugs IN my school...) I can see why the govornment might target us: we are supposed to be the most "at risk" portion of society and we are also young enough to start rehab if we are taking drugs. I don't agree with students not being allowed to get into a school for either taking drugs or refusing to take the test. I'll admit, I'm not sure what the laws are in the United States, but here, students don't get kicked out of a school for doing drugs. Personally, I wouldn't be against drug testing in the schools, but if they tried it, I would be helping my friends who are against it. Sure, I suppose it would be good to do the testing, but I agree that it would be an invasion of privacy for many of my friends, so I'd be against it. You wouldn't see me terribly upset if we lost, though...

Hello. I do not think you should be able to take drug testing in school. School is a place to learn not to be tested for drugs. What you do at home or in your time is with you, its not no one else's opinion. You can do what you want. They have to right to test you while your in school learning. Yes, I know some of you might not agree with me, but this is how I feel.
