Hazing in schools; (messages 1-9)

Hey everyone,
My school just had a speaker a couple of weeks ago about hazing in schools, and in particular high schools. It truly astonished me to hear that so many brutally disgusting things are being done to underclassmen or just generally anyone who doesn't fit into another group of people; whether it be popularity wise, or just simply sports or club wise.
In any case, I wanted to ask what you guys thought about hazing and whether there can ever really come an end to it?
Thanks a lot,
Tamara

I don't think that hazing will ever end. I mean I hope and pray that I'm wrong but I just don't think it will stop. It amazes me that people who are very popular have to do stuff like this we had the coach of the football team talking to us at the beginning of the school year because in years past it has been a big problem down on our football feild.I my opion I think that hazing is just so stupid people picking on other people just so they can feel superior to them what a rediclous excuss to hurt someone. What they don't realize is that they could seriously hurt someone or worse even kill them I mean there is only so much that the human body can stand.

I agree with you Jesusisinme about hazing never really ending, and how it truly is a horrific act of one student toward another just so they feel more powerful or like you said superior to the other person.
In my opinion the reason why hazing has gotten so much out of hand is because people have become indulged by just themselves, and their own problems. So, for "them" the only way to get that out of their system is to take it out on someone else that is less powerful then them. Of course there are peer pressures as well when it comes to hazing. For, so many sports teams have different ways of initiating new athletes in. Therefore some teammates although against hazing, have to perform the brutal "rituals" because they feel scared to oppose the others and/or not fit in anymore.
Conclusively, I think that the only way to be able to shift negative notions of hazing to one's that involve no violence or any danger for one's health, is to reevaluate what we value in our society as being a part of a melting pot of human beings. In order for one to not be tempted to commit hazing, they have to be taught the value of life. Not just their own but any ones. We need to seek to understand and have respect for each other, instead of finding ways to condone each other's existence through humiliating each other.
It may seem like a cheesy thing to say, but peers our age need to be definitely more open-minded about the world. We need to get away from the superficiality of the American dream "Me, me, me, big house, cars, luxury and money!" No, instead let's begin to focus on how we can give back in some way, so that not only we feel amazing within about doing such a humane act, but also because we get to enjoy seeing another person laugh and become happy.
Current levels of hazing go right in the face of that goal. Hazing completely diminishes one's belief in that they are safe and could be cared for, and have respect for themselves and others. Anyway, I've already spoken too much and have bored your minds out, so I better stop. Ok, bye and hopefully we'll get some more comments in here and in the rest of the topic sites. c ya

I'm glad that you agree with me. I think that hazing is so stupid and that instead of doing harm to other that we need to start helping one another. Everyone talks about how great the USA is and yet we are so far from being the best that we can be. People are to consernde about their own little world to realize that their are people out there who need our help. We could do soooooo much more if we would try to help. If instead of putting people down we give them a hand up. People would be surprised what a wonderful feeling they would get from helping someone. It is the most amazing thing to help someone who is in a bind. It makes you feel something you have never felt before. If instead of hurting and being mean we showed compassion for someone than that gives you a better feeling than you could ever get from causing someone harm. Oh,Tamara I just wanted to let you know that You didn't bore my mind you actually enriched and gave me some insight on somethings I'm so glad that there is atleast one person out there who has as big of an opion as me.

It is were people beat other people for no good reason. Sometimes it so they can feel superior to them in front of their friends. The point is it's wrong it's a cruel act against someone who can't defend theirselves as well as other. You hear of hazing alot in sports especially in football, only they call it initiation. The point is it is act of violence that should be stopped but probably won't.

Well, yes Jesusinme you are right, but hazing is not necessarily always beating. It can be forcing someone to drink ridiculous amounts of alcohol at a time. Or, locking someone in a bathroom and turning on the showers, and having all the steam stay there, because the group committing the act had closed up all the air ventilators. It can also be physical torture as well, through beating like you said Jesusisinme. But that isn't always the case though. Like last year I remember reading an article about a girl who was a gymnast at a new club. So, one night her teammates decided to get all the new girls in an open field at night, and have their car lights point at them in a circle while they strip. See, that is also considered hazing, next to so many other things. Ok, that's it. Thanks all,bye

Hazing/Initiation/whatever you wanna call it, is just plain stupid and pointless if you'd ask me.
