Check out the Milestones Calendar!
I'm a terrible mother some days. Well, not to Sheridan, but to the world at large awaiting word. His growth chart and an update on my main blog. He's big, he's brilliant, he's cute. Beach photos as proof. Until next time!

Well, he's two and a half years old. And totally a toddler. He has adjusted to me being at home full-time, and consequently wants to hang out with his dada a lot more. We've got a nice little routine going, which is good. But we need to get out more. Every other day to the park isn't enough for a growing boy.
Next month I'll post growth charts and such.

I know this is unusual, but I'm working from home full-time now, so I get to spend a lot more time with the WunderPain.
Also, unusual, I'm complaining about him! I guess my own internal stress level and his need to be independent crashed heads today. Everything he did was poking my buttons. It's 9:30 pm and he still hasn't had anything to eat. Very unlike him (he normally eats more than me). Coupled with a lot of whining and generally ignoring me, and running away in parking lots, I'm going to be glad that this day is over.
I'm hoping tomorrow's trip to the mall, and then the park, and maybe the beach on Sunday will be enough to get all that rambunctious out of him for a day or two.
I know, I know, wishful thinking. Tonight it's all I have left.

Drat, Blogger lost my post!
Sheridan at 2 years and 4 months won't go to sleep at night and in the morning he says, mama, bed! mama! bed!!
*sigh*
He can't write yet (no, duh!) so he's making letters out of lego and saying "this is the letter U" and then ripping it apart and saying "this is the letter L", putting it back together and turning it sideways and saying "this is the letter C"... Upside down is the letter n!
He's too smart for me. A few days ago he was thinking in mathematical series...
96 Scott writes, trying to screw with Sheridan's mind, and turns the paper around, "see, 9 is an upside down 6, 6 is an upside down 9".
Sheridan watches this with interest, then says, 8,5.
Scott is stunned. He writes 85 under 96, looking agog at the Wunderkind.
Sheridan thinks for a bit, looks at it, then says, 7. Thinks a little more, mutters to himself, and says 4! Then, "7,4, yes, 7,4!"
This is the series at this point:
96
85
74
Then he says, 7,10, pointing to the 9 and the 6. As in:
10,7
9,6
8,5
7,4
Two series of numbers... ACK!
Is it possible to die from cute?!

I think Blogger has an issue with this blog today.

Shoot, sorry folks, I totally blew it this month.
Well, yes, he's 2 years and 3 months old and brilliant as all heck. His reading and speech are improving, though the speech is still mostly only comprehensible to him. When he is speaking clearly, with the intent to communicate, he is speaking in sentences, which is super! He regularly tells Scott to "cut it out, Da!", which amuses me to no end.
He is recognizing letter forms in other things. He grabbed three scrabble tile holders, put them together in a H shape and carried them over holding them that way saying "look, ma, H!" So Scott gets out some wooden sticks and Sheridan made a nice column of H's with them, then counted them -- "Seven H's!"
Speaking of counting, the Wunderkid is also counting anything he can see. Yesterday walking out of the daycare, he saw some birds flying overhead. "One, two, three, four, five! Five birds!" Freaky, this child, positively freaky.
This weekend we were all sitting in the livingroom, and Dillon was playing with his GameBoy. Sheridan was interested, but Scott and I were, um, not. So Scott and I started playing with some lego pieces that Sheridan had left lying around. I picked up three red squares, one yellow double square, and one yellow triple square. I made a nice pattern out of them, handed it to Scott. He took it apart, rearranged it into a new shape, put it on the table. Sheridan left the GameBoy, came over, took it apart, made a different combination and put it back on the table and went back to the GameBoy. So I took his version, took it apart and made a fourth variation. Scott made a fifth. Sheridan came back, and made a sixth. I'm thinking I need to get some advice on how to challenge this boy. But whee! damn! I'm so proud of him!

Sheridan is sleeping on the love seat right now, making Scott and I all squooshy watching him be cute. Today marks the first day that he has the attention span to watch an entire movie. Of course it's Mary Poppins. He found the tape, and walked around begging -- Poppins! Poppins! Poppins! until I gave in and let him watch it for the second time today. Then he fell asleep. It's still playing, but I don't know why, really. It is a good movie and all.
In other news, he's 26 months old today. He is reading clearly -- finding words in things and bringing them to us, identifying his pile of identical movie tapes by the titles (including two Winnie the Pooh movies which he identifies by "rain rain" -- The Blustery Day, and "honey" -- The Honey Tree). I'm quite astonished, Scott is proud. Sheila, the day care lady, says he is counting without any errors up to 20 and they will work on up to 30 next. She is also astonished that he is all the way through the primer she has -- "look, he's at the Ready for School level!"
I think I am really going to have to make a decision soon on how to school him, and maybe track down a smart kid school. The doctor assures me that he could just be normal but with advanced reading skills, but I remember all too well my own deadly boredom and frustration when I was very young, and I don't want him to have to go through that. Obviously, if the challenges are too high, I will reconsider, but the kid is following very complex directions, remembering rules (like if you don't want your yoghurt/juice/water, put it back in the fridge -- now he is putting it away without being asked about 60% of the time, and getting it back out when he wants it), and in general exhibiting some advanced reasoning. He is reading to the cats, which they aren't sure how to take, as he puts his little arm around them, puts the book under their nose and then reads the words he knows and babbles about the characters.
He is also discussing his dreams. He must be, because when he wakes up, he says, "hi, momma" and then goes on for ages talking about the people and characters from the last few days, which I only partially get, and he laughs and shakes his head at the craziness of it all, yawns, then says, "hi, momma, love you momma! car?"
He's just amazing and he kills me every day with the purity of it all.

Why am I such a lax blogger for his blog? Because he is so horribly cute I just want to hang out with him instead of writing about him. For any family members out there, soon, soon. Sorry! He is speaking much clearer now, and we understand that "psychic" means music and "pizza" means "piece of [toast]", and "cookies" means potato chips (though we usually give him a SuperKid Biscuit instead). He's so happy, it's bizarre to me. Everything is delightful. Except 4 in the morning when he must get naked and scream. That I don't get. Everything out of his crib, all his toys, all his blankets, the sheet, his big pillow cat, his pyjamas, his diaper, everything but him and the mattress, and if he could figure out how to ditch the mattress, I think that would be gone, too. I hope this is just the teething phase!
