I am interested in your siddur recovery/republication project. First,
my heart goes out to you and everyone else in NY involved in this
terrible tragedy.

What has been so striking to me about all this is how closely it ties in
with our ancestor's experiences--as you said, this siddur had survived a
pogrom...

On Sunday, my mother had called and told me about seeing the film
"American Rhapsody" and said I must see it, which I did that evening.
The story of an infant lost in the escape from postwar, Communist
Hungary, it paralleled stories of my family and so many others. On
Tuesday morning she called me from the east coast and woke me up, saying
in a terrified voice, "We're at war." The most painful thing for me
about all this has been the connection with past wars, of families torn
apart, of parents and children and brothers and sisters never seeing
each other again, or of spending years looking for each other...

Whatever you can preserve from the siddur will be a memorial to all of
that, and a small piece of hope for shalom.

I'll make a donation as soon as possible, probably not till after the
holidays.

Shanah Tovah.

Lynn
