i have been talking with many about this, and am feeling more and more strongly about it each day: please, please do your part to stop the cycle of violence from continuing. write to your congressman, protest, or just plainold spread the word... but whatever your choice, do it now. we have to stop our idiot president and his cockandballs bullyontheplayground bullshit. regardless of who attacked us -- hell, it could even be an inside job -- it is sheer hyposcrisy to retaliate violently as we have innumerable times in the past. we are not Americans and this militant mentality is not patriotism. first and foremost we are citizens of the global community, and as citizens of this community must treat all peoples and lands as our own (Karma, baby). as huge a tragedy as Tuesday's events are, we had it coming. sometimes it takes a smack in the face to wake you up. we now know what many countries experience on a daily basis, often at the hands of the American government. violence breeds violence, and thus such actions will not show evryone how tough Amerika is, but only perpetuate a cycle that is sure to bring us all down in the end.
yoinked from angry red planet:
"~ after two days, we still have nothing to say.
the dandy little coxcombs who are saying 'the u.s. deserved this' are hardly addressing the fact that the comfort in which they live - that enables them to understand this situation so fully - is inseparable from the system that brought this retaliation.
the jingoist warhawks who call for unilateral destruction of various people who are remotely related to the likely perpetrators of this violence are not heeding the certainty of a future retribution and the uncertainty of the u.s. security structure - both defensive and offensive - to handle it.
the likelihood of an american epiphany, in which the cause of this terrorist effect is recognized and addressed, is slim; the damage and violence doubtlessly rules out much sympathy for the perpetrators' cause. it would not seem out of the question that would encourage more of this activity in the future, when other demands are wished to be met. thus, and this is the greatest fear at the angry red planet, it seems realistic that those at the helm of the u.s. military will take measures to not just retaliate or exact some quick vengeance - they must know what that will inspire - but will make every step to wipe away any technical or economic possibility for any persons or peoples to ever attempt some act similar to last tuesday's. will other nations step in the way of the u.s. before this level of destruction is reached, thereby raising the scale of warfare beyond imagination? or will they, with their own fears and memories of terrorism - stand by and allow the obliteration of a large part of the world to take place?
we at the angry red planet suppose that, upon a couple of days tired reflection, there is no course but to realize that this is not, as many have declared, the 'ending of our way of life' or anyone as much as it is a beginning of an wretched, inhuman way of life for everyone."

wear a white ribbon. = solidarity against violence and discrimination towards those of certain ethnic backgrounds in lieu of yesterday's events. no one went around roughing up white christian males when Timothy McVeigh bombed Oklamhoma City.

thismorning i wake midstream, dreaming Nazi thugs. have pulled me into their large bla kish car: are shouting in german, roughly at me, clutching my clothing. my roommate is talking to me from across the room. she tells me that the WTC has just been blown up. i laugh. i am still dreaming i think.
wander down the hall to the ba'throom (pardon that loose and nebulous pun), fridgebuzz barrading my ears. evry TV in the hall must be on, every phone, every internetconnexion. lines are jammed and people crowd round smallish blinking cubes whilst illinformed and biased anchormen feed us proAmerican antiIslamic bullshit. i talk at munch with those around me about future ramifications: political, economic, societal over my salad cranbergejuice and raisintoast.
please, please go here in addition to places like CNN.com: nyc.indymedia.org there are some lovely links to the right of your moniter once you are there.

coming up the hill thisafternoon from interviewing profs for me prospective classes, and i hear an electronic sort of bweeoop pulsing at regular intervals through the air and ricocheting off buildings and such. the beatbreaks just as i mount the crest of the hill, and before me is a tremendous setup blaring trance at brunchtime on the backlawn. how lovely: also i did this brilliant play lastnight in Ultimate Frisbee... it was so hot... this pitch the disc and then run and then snatch it out of the air reelquick bidness... getting pretty decent at UF myself i say i am, at least by SLC standards. and then i went to MansellHaus whereish we had some more brie, but with water crackers cos we were outof grapes and rollinpapers (ie Francielanden Bread).
