Yes children, I know many of you are having trouble reading my Livejournal journal. I feel your pain. I too would like to keep everyone happy, and I am working on a common solution...

.. that's a lie. I'm not working on anything. But I'm thinking of working on a solution, and that's a good first step... maybe adding some sexy flash shat and stuff. Every single female friend of mine, with the exception of Deb, Mary and Steph, has a better web page than I do. I'm afraid us dual chromosome'd suckas are losing the web war..

but in the meantime, if you can't read my livejournal, I'm sorry.. but you'll have to satisfy yourself by just reading my ancient posts.

Okay, at least temporarily my latest journal entries can be reached at Groucho's LiveJournal. I'm gonna see if I can merge all these entries together.

Things here are beautiful. I am staying at my uncles place on the Mountain. The weather is beautiful, but its winter here for them (22 degrees). Our flight was delayed by some time since the Ottawa to Toronto flight couldn't really happen (heavy winds in Toronto). Our flight was switched to Montreal instead, and once in Montreal the flight to Paris was again delayed. End result is we were 5 or 6 hours late and spent way too much time in airports. Once in Paris we landed at De Gaulle and had to go to Orly, so we spent our night in the biggest crap hotel in the world (its the closest one to Orly), for our flight the next day. Another four hours chillin' in an Airport and the 10 hour flight to Reunion began.

Mercifully I slept most of the way and we landed without a hitch. My varied family members and their significant others picked us up and we had a breakfast at another uncles place (closer to the ocean). They have a three legged dog, Mickey (she was hit by a car when young) who loves being scratched cause she can't get all of her belly. We then drove up to my other uncles place, where we're now staying. The place is huge, I'm staying in a detatched house thing. The weather is nice enough that the doors are closed only at night. The pool is kind of neat, the side facing the ocean is lower and water spills over it into a pool below, so while swimming you can see the ocean... though these two huge trees now impair the view. There's a new jacuzzi outside, but it needs some work (two of the jets don't fire). My uncle collects everything, there's so much junk here it's amazing. As an example there's a full size poker arcade machine out on the patio and a rickshaw-bike thing sitting outside.

I'd love to send photos, but we didnt bring the drivers for the camera, so if anyone knows where we can find the drivers for a Sony Handycam (PC5, specifically), let me know.. the Sony site is of limited use.

Last night we sat out on the deck playing Risk and Monopoly with my cousins.. fortunately the mountain air is too cool this time of year and there aren't many bugs out.
There's a lot more to tell, but this keyboard is pissing me off..

This sudden wave of nervousness and terror has washed over me. I'm not sure why. Something about the plane flight. Hopefully things will go well, they usually do. :O)

Here's an excerpt from the US State Department's advisory on traveling to Mauritius:

"Drivers involved in an accident are required by law to remain at the scene until the police arrive. However, if an angry crowd gathers (???) and those involved in the accident feel threatened, police and judicial authorities have in the past allowed them to leave the scene if they proceed directly to a police station."

.. for some reason that amuses me. Angry crowds gathering is a common thing? :O)

So this past Saturday I went to see my cousin's newborn baby, Brandon. They had this catered party thing where they had lamb. I don't mind lamb, but to be honest I'd just as soon eat the regular types of meat. I swam around in the pool a bit. Mary's story of dead animals floating in pools had me a bit paranoid though. My little cousins (children of my cousins, whatever you call them), kept wanting me to bring them floating objects and have me play fetch, like a dog.. but in a pool.

All these new babies in the family. Here, there, everywhere. I stayed in the water for waaay too long. I got out because it started raining and I was shivering. While taking a shower I realized my hands were so wrinkled that soap was getting caught between the wrinkles. Ew. :O)

So, we get back home only to have my brother ask me to come work out at Florida Fitness (my brother knows someone who works there). They have a hell of a lot of exercise equipment.. loads of it, but only one bench.. (three if you count the incline and decline benches). Anyhow, after another period of lifting less than I should be able to (but still more than my brother.. muhahaaamuhahahahaaa MUAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAAAAA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA...

....

sorry..), I am now here struggling to recover. My shoulders are still sore. I'm finding that the majority of my limitations come from forearm strength (or, more appropriately, the lack thereof). So I'm thinking I'm just gonna do wrist curls iwth random heavy objects in my house. Like my patchworked cordless phone.. since it's apparently not useful for much else.

I leave for my trip pretty soon. I have to transfer in Paris.. from Degaulle to Orly, or vice versa, so I think it's gonna be a day in Paris. Maybe I'll go visit Bruno Fitoussi's poker club there... Club D'Aviation or something. I have no idea why a poker club is called an aviation club. :O)

Aghhhh. Okay. Packing. Much packing to be done. I haven't even started. :O)

In the meantime, help me out and bug Vicki to update her frickin' blog. :O)

People are just pissing me off to no end today. First, Susan calls me at the ungodly hour of like 9 AM today to find out what's going on for Canada Day. I tell her we'll talk sometime in the afternoon because I need to sleep, she's fine with that. I call back at like 1, no answer. I call back at like 2, no answer. Anyhow, tentative plan to meet up with Kathryn for supper with her friends. Meeting is to be at 5 PM outside the Chateau Laurier. I bust my ass off to get there for 5 PM, and who do I see there? Her friends, not her. I chat with Austin for a bit and then just start wandering off, experiencing the "walking through crowd" sensation of Canada Day. 5:10. 5:15. 5:30. 5:45. 6:00 6:15. It's like waiting for a phone call from Mary when she says she'll "Call me tomorrow".

To make matters worse, her friends are incapable of moving without her. I'm sure that individually they get through their lives on a day by day basis without her help, but as a collective they seem to be rather useless without her guidance. So they sit there outside the Chateau Laurier while I wander through crowds. Eventually I get tired of walking, and at about 5:45 I lie down on the Median separating the two directions of traffic on Rideau St. (outside the Chateau Laurier). This is not as psychotic as it sounds since traffic on the road is closed and it's filled with crowds of people. The sky is beautiful to watch, and it was windy, so there was a lot of stuff blowing high up in the air, like little GAP bags, and pieces of kleenex and stuff.. it was weird.

Eventually a crowd forms because there's some camera guy filming me and this other guy lying down beside me with a camera shoved into my face. He's asking me what my plans are, I tell him I have to volunteer from 7 to 11 and I'm waiting for one of my friends. He gets me talking about phone sex (y'know how it's easy to drift into that topic), and pretty soon I find myself in the middle of Rideau St, with a crowd of people watching me like I was Marcel Marceau moonlighting as a busker, spouting off a list of extensive sexual fetishes. Suddenly Jen pops out of the crowd, "BRUCE!! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!". And then the interviewer starts chatting with me about Jen, before disappearing. Then I see Francisco, "BRUCE! Wow. What a great way to meet chicks!".. and Niall, "Hi Bruce", and Niall's friend. I chat with them for a bit before saying hello and where on God's earth have you been to Kathryn..

They went shopping.

Suddenly I wonder if Austin is going to hold her down so I can kick the crap out of her, or if it's the other way around. I decide I don't very much care, and decide that it's probably best if I not travel with them since:

  • They might be walking to a sit down restaurant.
  • My desire to choke the life out of her for wasting a good portion of my valuable day might be overwhelming.

So I give a goodbye hug and go off with Niall and Francisco and company to grab a bit of pizza. They give me the addy of a house party and I figure I might drop by after my shift, and then go to the Well as I was planning (Rob Solo is playin'.. or was..).

My volunteer shift goes too long, and poof, I miss the fireworks and the party. Plus I didn't take the car, so I have no means of getting back except by bus which means I have to leave right away.

I spent the ride on the bus listening to some kids talk about how they get into all these gang fights and beat the shit out of guys with baseball bats. Misplaced modifier. Bite me. Anyway, it was amusing to listen to. Then I took the remainder of the nice walk from the bus stop, a good 30 minute walk in the dark cold, before popping home. Et voila.

    What I Learned Today:

  • Make plans with unreliable enemies. Don't make plans with unreliable friends unless you're comfortable with wanting to choke the life out of your friends.
  • People stare at you when you lie down on the street. Even when it's closed. Doubly so if there's a cameraman and interviewer nearby.
  • Don't joke around with people who are threatening to kill themselves. Not even a little.

I know I've reached a new low, because my little sister now has a much better webpage than me.

This is how us geeks keep score in life. Agh. :O)
