You know, I've been doing the genealogy thing since I left goldman. I'm totally blocked at the immigration border, but since my great-grandfather settled in Thomas, West Virginia, I've found family members who are orthodox cowboys in cheyenne, furriers in ogden, UT, saloon-keepers in Thomas (an old coal down, now a ghost town, though I have a 101 year old great aunt whom I visited there last year). I found an uncle who is commissioner of corrections (prisons) in West Virginia, and a cousin who is the democratic minority whip in the utah state assembly (her mom used to have lunch every day with harry s truman when she was an executive in the DNC). So I can't go back past when folks arrived in this country between 1875 and 1910, but there are still plenty of strange stories...
