Music and sound comes to barganews in a big way!!

Ok, I know, there has been music on the site for a year or so, but finally somebody sorted out all the files and put them in an ordered and sensible way so that you know what you are looking for.

Suprise, suprise, there are 100's of them
.
There were so many Aristodemo sessions that he gets his own listing along with "jazz" "classical" and "people"

Be sure to check them out, they give yet another "taste" of Barga

If there was a counter running at the bottom of the barganew.com front page, it would today read 2.000.000
We have just passed through 2 million hits on barganews. It took 12 months to reach the first million and only 5 months to reach the second...........I wonder what it will be like at the end of the year?

We have a regular readership of 30,000 people a month and rising. Incredible when you consider how small Barga really is. A big thank you to all of you out there who are making this such a successful site.

Adding sound to barganews has opened up a whole new can of beans. We put the Mayor of Barga, Umberto Sereni on the front page with a taped message for the world. It has been downloaded hundreds of times, so somebody likes it! A Barga musician downloaded it, added a backing track and low and behold the Mayor has become a rap artist with a big, big following ...this too has been downloaded hundreds of times....funny old world 'aint it? To listen to the message from the Mayor "Rap version" click on "artists" and then "JJ CARDE" download and off you go

One of the reasons I continue to enjoy living in this town is that each day brings new experiences.
Some of my friends still refuse to believe that I could enjoy living in such a "small" place....they call it the "big fish in a small pond syndrome"

HA!, tell me if this could happen in your town ....."Mr.Small Fish in a Big Pond"

Just a normal day in Barga Vecchia. We were standing in Aristo's bar having a drink. One of the guys who works in the Town Hall came in for a quick drink. He left a pile of books that he was carrying on the seat outside.

The size of the books got me curious, they were quite large and dusty. I had a closer look. They were hand written documents from the criminal courts in Barga dated from 1592.....1592! ...just sitting there on the bench outside of Casciani's !

The guy finished his drink, picked up his books, written just 70 years after Columbus discovered America and carried on with his work...............a normal day in Barga

Have a look at some of these books here

Finally we get music on barganews.com!

In the coming weeks we will be putting more and more sounds of Barga on these pages. When was the last time you heard the Duomo di Barga ??
Stay tuned folks, cos it's coming on barganews.com

We start the sound experience with one of the myths of Barga Vecchia: Aristodemo Casciani

It may be raining (can I feel webs growing between my toes and fingers?) but the sun always shines in Aristodemo Casciani's bar.
Here is the proof........

Click on "MP3" on the front page or
Click on "live music" on Aristodemo's site ( you can find that under "ARTISTS" or "COMMERCE"

8 music files to download and enjoy.
MP3 comes to barganews.com with a vengance.
Some are quite large but are worth the time to download as they include the very rare recording of Aristo playing the bottles!

Have fun.

Well, lots of new stuff going on in barganews.

We now have 5 new writers on the barganews staff .

SPORT finally comes to these pages with the all new brand spanking sparkling BARGASPORT site .Beppe Mars writes each week with results and inside information on everything to do with the world of sport in Barga.

Sylvia gives us a traditional and sometimes not so traditional recipe from Tuscany each week. Not to be missed!

Insolace, a musician from America sends us a "letter from America" describing his life in California.

Dario Dibordo writes, scribbles and draws virtual images in your head with just text on a screen , Has anybody yet worked out what he is on about?

Deety finally gets out from under his computer and lets us into his brain passages for a short while. I once spent a whole day travelling up to Milan with Deety and I can tell you that this guy has a way of thinking that activates places in your brain that you didn't even know where there. It has taken me months to persuade him to get some of this stuff down on to the screen, but finally we have him. Not to be missed. Please send some feedback to him so that he carries on. I for one am having a good time reading his stuff. What do you think ?

The Giardino in Barga has been feeling a bit left out of the digital revolution as all the media attention has been on Barga Vecchia and all the various events that take place there. Opera Barga, Barga Jazz etc. etc.
The opening of the HyperMarket Planeta down at Gallicano has also had it's effect on moral.
BUT, no longer..............the Giardino had just been wired!!!!
On the front page of barganews you will now find the "yellow pages" for Giardino, An interactive street map showing every single shop, bank, bar or commercial enterprise and they ALL have an e-mail. You can now get in touch with every single trader in Giardino. How long before you will be able to look at, order and buy articles from them on line? Don't hold your breath, 'cos it's coming.

Not only have we given them all an e-mail address, we also have given the rest of the world free E-mail.
From next week it will be possible to have a @barganews e-mail address and all web based. Everytime to come to the site it will be possible to log on, read and send mail and all without having to go to your e-mail application or provider. This means you can read and send mail from any computer in the world that is linked to the net. Perfect for when you go on holiday, or for people who move around, or for people who do not have a coputer at home and have to use web cafes.

The online community that is barganews.com just took another step forward when this morning the barganews.com forum finally came on line.
We have tried out 3 different forums in the past 8 months, none of which were really successful for one reason or another. Now we are trying the ezboard forum and this seems to be the easiest to use up until now.
Come and give it a try. I am sure after a few posts you will all be hooked on it. It is a mix between the guest book and the chat room. All of this done in real time.

Check out the latest edition to barganews: 3D moving postcards.
Incredible things.
Find them on the front page . They are quite small, around 350KB, so they don't take that long to download. You will not believe your eyes once they start.
Send them to your friends as E-Mail attachments

Wednesday, January 10, 2001
the barganews radio is taking longer to set up than we thought, mainly because there will be 6 different E J's working for various computers around Barga. It's a little complicated but patience is a virtue.

Yesterday there were over 2300 visitors to the webcam....what is going on ?
